What to Expect from a Trip to the West Coast

Dig out your bucket-and-spade at the Vendée seaside resorts of St Jean de Monts and Les Sables d’Olonne. Relax on the town beach at La Grande Conche in Royan (Charente Maritime), which has great facilities and lifeguards in high season. For surfing and water sports, make a splash in La Tanchet (Vendée), and the wilder Atlantic coast further south.

Explore other regions in France

Brittany is France's north westernmost tip that reaches bravely outwards to the Atlantic Ocean. It is a delightful area to discover, and being well served with ferry ports bringing it even closer to Ireland. And there are many other reasons to choose Siblu holiday park, Domaine de Kerlann, Le Conguel or Les Pierres Couchées as a base.

The southwest coast of France is an incredibly diverse area, full of beaches, nature and culture. It is also home to four amazing Siblu holiday parks: Domaine de Soulac, La Réserve, Les Viviers and Les Dunes de Contis. Outside of the parks themselves, the South West boasts a huge range of things to see and do, which makes it ideal for all kinds of holidaymakers.

Nowhere is more synonymous with sea and sunshine than the South of France. Warm, iridescent Mediterranean location – tick. French Riviera glitz and glamour – tick. Authentic flavours and savours of Provence – tick.

The stunning Rhone Alps region stretches from Lake Geneva in the north to Provence and the Cevennes in the south. This eastern corner of France is all about forests, mountains, rivers and fresh air, and Siblu’s holiday park, Les Rives de Condrieu, is the perfect exploring base.

The romantic Loire Valley lies in France’s heart. It is just south of Paris, yet still wonderfully accessible for the beaches of the Vendée and Loire Atlantique on the Loire coast. The Loire River, France’s longest, meanders through its verdant, vine-covered hills dotted with fairy-tale castles. To boot, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Normandy is an irresistible destination for discovering everything that’s great about France without having to venture too far from home! Normandy’s fascinating history ranges from the era of William the Conqueror right through to the famous D-Day landings of World War II.

West Coast Highlights

Beaches
The stretch of Atlantic coast has some really amazing beaches, perfect for cycling, swimming and water sports. Kids will love splashing around in the gentle waves at the St-Jean-Monts beach or in La Palmyre Bay (both very close to our Siblu parks). Don’t miss out on visiting some of the region’s stunning islands: the Ile de Ré (accessible from La Rochelle via a 3km bridge), the Ile de Oléron (famous for surfing), and the Ile de Yeu (an active fishing port with an amazing natural diversity). For sailing fans the beautiful beach at Les Sables d’Olonne is a must-visit as it’s the starting point for the yearly Vendée globe yacht race.

History
The West Coast is full of fascinating historical sites and ancient towns and cities. This includes beautiful La Rochelle, its port guarded by three medieval towers; Saintes with its Roman ruins; and Cognac, birthplace of the famous brandy. If you’re staying in Vendée you’re also within reach of locations such as Nantes (a buzzing riverside city with an interesting royal history) and Guérande and St Gilles-de-Croix-de-Vie where you can find out more about this coastline’s traditional economic activities, such salt extraction and sardine fishing.

Events and Days Out
There are loads of great family events and days out to enjoy throughout the summer season on the West Coast. Within easy reach of our Charente-Maritime parks you can enjoy visiting the animals at La Palmyre zoo and braving the rides at Luna Park Funfair. A bit further afield you’ll find some of France’s most famous theme parks: experience a glimpse of the future at ‘Futuroscope’ or step back in time with the larger-than-life shows at ‘Puy du Fou’. Depending on when you plan to visit you might also be lucky enough to witness some of the West Coast’s most exciting festivals: free classical music on the beach at Royan’s ‘Le Violin sur le Sable’ or, a bit further north, a taste of traditional music from all over Europe at the Lorient Interceltic Festival.
